Introduction to locations
- Use Locations to pin the primary places your clients will be visiting on the map for an exciting visual overview of their trip
- Typically Locations is used for hotels or the main places your clients are visiting. (If you want to add restaurants, and sights to see, try using the Points of Interest feature instead!)
- For each location, you can show it on the map, add additional information, display driving directions & display the weather
- Maps can be downloaded offline, so your clients can see their locations even with no internet access
Adding a location from Google Maps
- Go to your Vamoos List, select a trip and go to Locations in the menu down the left-hand side
- You will see a map (integrated with Google Maps API) and a box saying 'Search location'above the map
- Type in the location that you are looking for in the search box above the map, and select the correct one from the dropdown list
- The location will then be shown on the map, please press Add Location to add it to the List of Locations for this trip
- If you scroll down, you will then see the location has been added to the list of locations for this trip
- Press SAVE to save your changes
TOP TIP: if you can't find the location, type it exactly as its spelled on Google Maps
Adding a location with coordinates
- To add a location that does not show on Google Maps, scroll down to the list of locations below the map and press ADD
- A blank location record will appear, and you can manually fill in the name, country & coordinates of the location
- Press SAVE when done and your location will appear on the map
Adding a location by dropping a pin
- Another way to add a location is by dropping a pin on the map
- Simply right-click anywhere on the map to drop a pin
- You can then press Add Location to add it to the list
Add more information about a location
- Once you have added your locations to the list below the map, you can add a bit more information about each of them by pressing the Attach/Link button and upload a PDF or add a URL
- You can also tick or untick the box next to Weather to decide whether to show the weather for that location in the weather section of the app
- If you don't want to show a location on the map you can also untick the Maps option next to that location and it won't show (maybe you just want to use it to display weather, or just to link to a day in the Storyboard)
Reordering locations
- If the order of locations on the trip changes around, you can really easily drag and drop to reorder them
- Simply click on the 3 lines on the left-hand side of the location in the list, and drag it to the position you would like it to be
- The number for each location on the map will change to reflect the order of locations in the list
Driving instructions to a location
- In the app, when a user clicks on the location on a map, they will see a driving instructions arrow on the label
- Clicking the arrow will take users to an external navigation app and provide them with driving instructions to that location
- If you would like to show the route in the app, please use our GPX Tracks Feature
FAQs
- Q: Should I add hotels or cities as my locations?
A: Its really up to you, as a general rule of thumb, locations is used for where they are staying overnight, and POIs can be used for all other sites and places they will visit along the way.
- Q: If I manually add a location, will it be remembered or do I have to add it manually each time?
A: Vamoos remembers your previously added locations, to add a location you have previously added manually, just press the ADD button below the map, and start typing the name of the location and select it from the dropdown list.
- Q: Do maps work offline?
- A: Yes they do! Vamoos maps work offline, just be sure to load up the map when connected to internet first, then it will work offline.
